Since forming in the early 1990’s, Old Blind Dogs have stood on the cutting edge of Scotland’s roots revival. The band has developed its own trademark style with an energetic mix of songs and tunes. Dynamic percussion, polished vocals, soaring fiddle and stirring pipes fuel the delicately-phrased melodies and traditional songs. Like many of the early flag bearing Scottish folk bands, the Old Blind Dogs line up has faced inevitable changes over the years but the core values at the band’s musical heart continue to beat strong. The current band line up has been settled for several years now and consists of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians at the top of their game. Original member Jonny Hardie (fiddle/vocals) is joined by Aaron Jones (cittern/guitar/vocals), Donald Hay (percussion/vocals) and pipers Elias Alexander and Mike Katz, collectively comprise of one of the hottest live tickets on the traditional Scottish music scene today.
As recent inductees to the BBC ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Trad Music Hall of Fame’, the ‘Dugs’ (in Scotland – “The Dogs” in U.S.) have released 14 albums and have won numerous other awards including the prestigious title of Folk Band of the Year and Scots Trad Music Awards. Their album ‘Four On The Floor’ picked up the IAP ‘Best Celtic CD’ Award and their CD, ‘Wherever Yet May Be’ was nominated for the same award. The Dogs latest album, ‘Knucklehead Circus’ could be their best. A joyous, uplifting and fun album, full of compelling energy and intoxicating rhythm on which ‘The Dogs’ continue to innovate within their tradition. THE SCOTSMAN gave the album four stars, and a reviewer added, “The remarkable renaissance of this Scottish institution continues to enthrall and amaze. Old Blind Dogs ascend the heights on Knucklehead Circus.”
