The Colorado Scottish Festival August 3-4 in Edgewater
This year the folks at Colorado Scottish Festival & Rocky Mountain Highland Games will return August 3-4 to their new favorite venue, Citizens Park in Edgewater, CO (just west of Sloans Lake). The Festival is produced by the St Andrew Society of Colorado where “the Scots are a Mile High” with 2019 celebrating their 56th annual Games! Since 1963, the Festival has brought traditional Scottish Heavy Athletics, piping and drumming, Scottish Highland and Country dancing, as well as lively and fascinating Celtic culture to Colorado. Some of the events you can enjoy are: Massed Pipes and Drums with Parade of Clans, and Historical Re-enactors (noon both days), Parade of British Dogs (10am both days), Solo Piping, Drumming and Band Competitions, Scottish Athletic Competitions, Highland Dance Competition and Performances, Scottish Clans, Vendors featuring Celtic Merchandise, Scottish-style Food and Drink, Irish Step Dancing / Morris Dancers, Whisky Tasting, Children’s Activities, Bonnie Knees Contest (Saturday), Hot Piping and Drumming Contests (Saturday), British Car Show (Sunday), Kirkin’ of the Tartan (Sunday morning), Blessing of the Dogs (Sunday morning),Renaissance Scots Village. On Saturday, don’t miss the Bonnie Knees contest which always garners a few laughs.
Live Celtic music and dance is scheduled throughout the weekend. Saturday: The Renaissance Scotts have a tent where they will perform battle re-enactments, and will host acoustic musicians, and Scottish and Morris Dancing throughout the day. During the day, the highland dance competition will be at the highland tent.In the evening, The Queen City Pipe Band, and the Rocky Mountain Highland Dancers will open for the 7PM Angus Mohr at the pavilion. Sunday: Loretta Thompson playing Scottish fiddle, and her friends.The Lilt Collective, with singer Beth Gadbaw, Pete Strickler (banjo), Charlie Branch (guitar), Dirk Mewes (uilleann pipes), and a guest fiddler.Scottish band Skean Dubh the Bennet School of Irish Dance Morris Dancers, Avourneen, Tri S Slua Irish trio, and more to be announced.
ON-STREET PARKING is available in neighborhoods around the Citizens Park. Naturally, please follow courteous parking etiquette, abide by any private-parking signs and do not block driveways, alleys, or other no-parking areas. Unfortunately the lot south-west of the field is completely blocked for construction. There is no other close in parking for the event. ADA PARKING: ADA parking can be found in the school lot on the north-west corner of the festival field. Please be advised that only those with official ADA parking credentials will be allowed in this lot.
