The Irish Christmas in America show featuring Oisin MacDiarmada, Seamus Begley, Sean Gavin, Grainne Hambly, Samantha Harvey, Niamh Farrell and Brian Cunningham brings its holiday program to Colorado again with shows on the 9th at the Soiled Dove Underground at 8 PM and the Stargazer Theatre in Colorado Springs at 7 PM on the 11th. Kindred Spirits’ annual holiday show, this year titled “Imagine Winter”, will take place on the 8th at 8 PM in the Tuft Theater at Swallow Hill Music, 71 E. Yale Ave, Denver, CO 80210. Brian Clancy has recovered from his knee surgery and returns to the stage at Jack Quinn’s Irish Alehouse and Pub in Colorado Springs, to the delight of his many fans, for his traditional Thursday night shows on the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th at 7:30 PM.
Avourneen opens the month at 9 PM on the 1st at Ned Kelly’s, 5686 S. Sycamore St., Englewood, no cover, then continues with Contra dance music on the 7th starting at 7:15 p.m. (lesson), 8 p.m. (dance), for Boulder Contra Dance, in the Avalon Ballroom at 6185 Arapahoe Road. $12/$10 members. On the 15th, they begin the evening at 6:30 PM with a lesson and dancing at 7 PM in Fort Collins for the Fort Collins Contra at the Fort Collins Masonic Temple, 225 Oak St., $15/$8 students. On the 22nd they head south to play on the Jack Quinn’s stage, 21 S. Tejon St., Colorado Springs at 9 PM, free admission. Lead singer and guitar player Adam Goldstein plays at the Clocktower Cabaret for the late-night show on the 8th and 29th.
Chancers Hooley is on stage at the Little Bear Saloon in Evergreen on the 8th from 4 to 8 PM. That gig will be the last one with the band for bassman Kevin McCotter who says, “The band is not breaking up, it’s just time for me to do ‘something new’. Hmm… that might be a good title for a song! I hope to see you all at the Little Bear on the 8th. Cheers!”
Wild Mountain performs at Clancy’s on the 8th at 7:30 PM. The band will be going on hiatus for a while after that, working on videos and new recordings.
Colcannon presents its annual holiday show at 7:30 PM on the 18th at Nissi’s, 2675 Northpark Drive, Lafayette, CO 80026.
Juice O’the Barley brings in the New Year with a rocking show upstairs at the Celtic on Market, 14th and Market Street in LoDo from 2:30-6:30 PM on the 31st for the annual Ancient Order of Hibernians Irish New Year’s Eve party! The Juice will also have copies of their latest album, “Only a Memory” for sale that day.
And while the Juice is rocking it out upstairs, The Celtic Friends bring their trad approach to the New Year downstairs on New Year’s Eve from 3:30-6:30 PM.
After 12 years, Skansen and Hansen (Darren and Greg) are also going on hiatus. Their final performances of the year and as a duo take place on the 2nd and 3rd at Nissi’s in Lafayette. Doors open at 6 PM, show at 7 PM, tickets $15 in advance, $17 at the door. 303.665.2757
