An Evening with the legendary PHIL COULTER with special guest singer Geraldine Branagan
“Phil Coulter, the legendary Irish musician, has done it all. Most musicians would be satisfied with accomplishments as a composer, arranger, producer or recording artist. Coulter not only has performed all of those tasks but also has excelled at them.” Denver Post
Phil Coulter is coming to Denver Friday, February 8th for a unique celebration of his music.
Approximately 25 years ago Coulter performed in Colorado at the Paramount Theatre in Denver. There was a special energy to the evening as the Irish community marched in an impromptu parade from Nallen’s Irish Pub (show sponsor/presenter) up the 16th Street Mall to the theatre. It was the beginning of Colorado’s love affair with Coulter, and it was also the beginning of the Celtic Connection/Events. Phil would make many more trips to Colorado, performing again at the Paramount, as well as the Denver Auditorium, Symphony Hall, and other venues.
Knowing Coulter’s history of performing in high profile venues, the Celtic Connection was curious when they made him a proposal: Would he come to Denver to perform in a 300 seat venue for “Friends of Phil – some of his original Colorado friends from the first show 25 years ago and others met along the way?
Coulter replied with overwhelming enthusiasm, “I totally get the vibe,” he said from Dublin, “In fact it is probably well suited to my One Man Show, which is more casual, more chat, more stories, more relaxed……probably more fun… The fact that it would mark your 25th anniversary, and that it started with PC, is pure serendipity!”
So we’re set for Friday, February 8th, for a get-together with Phil Coulter and Irish singer (and Phil’s wife) Geraldine Branagan at the Soiled Dove Underground, 7401 E 1st Ave, Denver. “The Dove” is on many annual lists for the “Best” venue for live music. Seating is tiered, and for Phil’s show, all seats will be at a table or rail with a place for food and drink. The venue is below the Tavern at Lowry (good food and variety menu) and is accessible by stairs or elevator. Parking is free.
PHIL COULTER is one of Ireland’s most successful musician, songwriter, and producer. He is one of the biggest record sellers in his native land and has amassed 23 platinum discs, 39 gold discs, 52 silver discs, two Grand Prix Eurovision awards; five Ivor Novello Awards, which includes Songwriter of the Year; three American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers awards; a Grammy Nomination; a Meteor Award, a National Entertainment Award and a Rose d’or d’Antibes. In October 2009, Coulter was presented with a BASCA Gold Badge Award in recognition of his unique contribution to music.
Coulter wrote beloved Irish classics that include ‘The Town I Loved So Well’ and ‘Ireland’s Call’ and has had an astonishing career of cross genre collaborations. His songs have been song by artists as diverse as Elvis Presley, The High Kings, Richard Harris, Bay City Rollers, Cliff Richards, the Fureys, and Celtic Thunder, to name a few. He has arranged and produced albums for traditional Irish music band Planxty and the pop sounds of Van Morrison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Jones, Sinéad O’Connor and Boyzone.
